Keeping Your Business Secured

Protecting Your Livelihood

Whether you’re a seasoned business owner or you’re just starting out, you know that operating your own business can be extremely costly and every penny counts. One of the decisions that must be made is, “How am I going to protect my business?”

We’ve seen it happen so many times. New businesses open up on tight budgets so they decided to put a monitored security system off until they start turning a profit. The next thing you know, they get burglarized and the business crumbles. More often than not, it’s internal theft that causes the most damages.

So, we’ve put together a few steps you can take to protect your business from external and internal theft.

Experts say that the best type of lock to prevent someone without a key from coming in is the pin-cylinder dead bolt type. These locks are hardest to pick and will keep out the novice burglars. Speaking of door locks, keep a count of your keys! Always have an up to date list of who has a key to lock and unlock your business.

Lighting is crucial! Keep a well lit area inside and outside of your business when it is not occupied. Flood lights pointing to all entrances and interior lighting that can provide a view of the inside from the street are the best way to go. With interior lighting it will deter a thief from trying to break in through your windows but having impact glass makes that twice as safe. Use impact glass on all accessible windows. Impact glass can be broken but it will take a lot of time and a lot of patience.

Safes are most effective in any business that has cash flow. Making daily or nightly deposits will certainly reduce the total loss if a theft occurs. Safes can also be mounted to the floors and walls to make them harder to relocate.

Most importantly, get a security system! Most people aren’t aware of the different ways you can make your security system work for you!

Below, we’ll explain how each of these tips listed above can be amplified by having a security system.

  1. Locks! Yes, having locks that are hard to pick are great. Let’s not forget that some people steal for a living and have perfected the art of breaking and entering. Having a pin-cylinder dead bolt AND a door sensor on all entry points will give your doors all the protection they need.

  2. Keeping up with the keys you give your employees is also a very important step to take. On top of that, a security system will tell you EXACTLY what time an employee opened or closed your business. This is a very effective tool for those of you who run businesses and you trust your employees to open and close without your presence.

  3. Lighting ties in with locks when it comes to security. Yes, well-lit entryways and interior night lighting can be a strong deterrent but it will not keep out those who are determined to come in. There have been instances where a thief will come in during business hours, climb into the ceiling from the bathroom and wait until everyone leaves. Having a monitored security system installed by a professional will protect all of your doors, windows and will detect any motion inside of the business!

  4. Safes are the best way to protect cash in the business. On top of having them mounted to the floor and walls, you can also place a sensor on the inside of the safe. This means that if that not only will you have a record of every time that safe is opened but it will also set off the security system and send the police if someone got past the rest of the sensors.

  5. Impact glass is the best choice when it comes to accessible windows. It’s also the best for us here on the Treasure Coast simply because of hurricanes. But with a combination of impact glass, motion sensors and glass break sensors, anyone who tries coming in your business will set off the system and dispatch the police.

  6. Security systems can not only deter burglars but with the technology now available, they can also be tamper proof. A lot of people don’t like the idea of paying for monthly monitoring because a thief can just cut the phone line outside and disable the system. This is no longer the case. Adding cellular back up will ensure that your system will always stay in connection with the monitoring station.

Security systems are so often more affordable than people think. Don’t let those thoughts stop you from protecting your business. You are entitled to a free quote with no obligations from Absolute Protection Team, Inc. Call us today and let us help you protect your livelihood.
